When life whispers

Have you come across moments in your life when you recognize presence of something very subtle and trivial, something that you never wished for, but now that you have it - it has earned a special place in your life?

In my experience of life so far, while our core values and innate nature always stays the same but our priorities, personality, habits, our likes and dislikes all of these elements tend to evolve in some capacity. Over the time I have recognized how certain things that I had never thought about or wished per say, have suddenly turned into things that I deeply cherish. As I share what they are, you may wonder what's so special or endearing about having them? And I would respond by agreeing with your concern but my idea behind sharing those here is to highlight not the absolute value of certain things but the importance that we need to pay in noticing these smallest yet newly emerging joys (life's whispers).

Quite often, we tend to focus and celebrate only the highlights of life - graduation, job, promotions, marriage, kids (majority of which are influenced by our culture, society, family and any such external factors). While all these have their own place, but not at the cost of missing out on other subtle, deeper fulfillments that we experience but move past them quickly.

Try to listen even to life's whispers and not just the bangs.

Coming to sharing two of the subtle things that have given me immense joy in the past few years: (1) life in Washington, (2) this view from my apartment window. It is a very subtle observation and not a big deal by any means but again, what I wish to emphasize here is to pause from time to time, recognize and appreciate even the little things that gives you deeper joy and meaning.

It will soon be four years since I moved to Seattle and to use an analogy to accurately express the sentiment, I can say that among all the places that I have lived including my home country, Seattle is the first place that has been closest to my heart and I hope I can continue calling it home for the foreseeable future as well. Sharing few pictures covering snowy, gorgeous winters, followed by a picture from cherry blossoms in spring, moving onto hikes during summer, fall colors, and the cycle repeats with winters back again.

So, these are my two things that I have started to enjoy even on casual, non-vacation days.
Curious to know your side of the story, your memories of times when you decided to pause and recognize the small gifts that are dropped on your way by life.
Do you follow a self-reflection routine? It can be marked by end of the day for those of you who like to journal, or every year, or may be even random reflections after you experience any milestones or setbacks. I would love to hear about things you have discovered, looking back at your recent past experiences, that gives you joy and you want to make a part of your life. Do share them in the comments section below.

I fully agree that in this fast-moving journey of life, we tend to listen to just the big bangs of life and are big-time missing the whispers...Very well articulated dippy and I am sure post reading this article many will be encouraged to listen to the whispers of life as well. Mantra to a happy life is in enjoying whispers and not in big bangs...

Hi Dippy,

Yes, our experiences are bigger than any milestones! Very true. Focussing the mind on little aspects takes practice, happy to see that you are continuing with your writing to self reflect your thoughts, very inspiring! Nice pictures capturing different seasons of Seattle!
